I recently picked up a fairly new book on social media, technology and youth called It’s Complicated by Danah Boyd. With a world in transition with how it communicates and processes information and with social media being such an integral part of teenage life…and as a youth minister myself…I thought this might be an interesting book to read. I was really drawn in by Danah Boyd’s fair research and commentary on the teenage life, adults’ reactions to teens and their use of social media, and how adults and youth can work together going forward.
Boyd’s research over the past decade really paid off in this new book. There will definitely be some blog posts on this book soon, because she gave me plenty to reflect on and ponder. And my endorsement: this book should be a staple in every youth pastor’s library.
Chapters: Identity, Privacy, Addiction, Danger, Bullying, Inequality, Literacy, and the definition of “Public”.
